Early Nesting

George hates the term, "nesting."  I don't know why; it's not my favorite word, but I think it's fine.  Regardless, with 2 months to spare, we've finished getting the house ready for the baby.  The last time we did a lot of extra work was the spring cleaning project in April of last year, so maybe the time had come to spend a bunch of money to make changes nobody else would notice.
The most obvious change was replacing all of Drakeson's baby flooring with new larger foam tiles that cover wall to wall.  Now the kids room has more padding, it's not as fun to destroy, and it's much easier to clean.  Also, we removed Drakeson's toy drawers and reorganized his closet with a bigger set of shelves and clear boxes.  This opens up more room to play and makes it a little easier to find everything.  Those shelves came from the garage, so we bought a bigger set of garage shelves and reorganized all the junk in there.  Meanwhile, the old toy drawers got moved into our bedroom and became the baby's new dresser.  It's already filled to the brim.
The next most obvious change was the furniture swap.  We moved the TV stand into our bedroom to make room for the bookshelf and coffee table in the front room.  I kind of hate to admit it, but we've already watched The Little Mermaid in the comfort of our own bed over the course of the past two weeks, and it was even more amazing than our last viewing a few years back, because Drakeson was here this time.  And speaking of Drakeson, we've finally trusted him to take better care of our books, so the coffee table is actually a table now instead of a shield for the bookshelf.  Because the front room holds our solar powered rainbow generator, the it has now officially become a rainbow library.  A rainbow library?  That's what I've always wanted.
Of course all the closets got reorganized, and the biggest project there was redoing the kitchen pantry.  We peeled all the stained spongy netted shelf lining off the sticky white paint and threw it away.  Then we sanded off a few layers of the old paint and covered it with two coats of outdoor waterproof hard white enamel.  We relined all the shelves with thick sturdy ribbed plastic lining, and boom.  Now I wouldn't even bat an eye at a molasses spill.
And then there's the money.  The outer casing of our rocking chair got re-stitched by a seamstress and dry cleaned, so it's reshaped and all ready for newborn nursing.  Our three saddle bar stools have been replaced with four slimmer, vibrant, wipeable tabouret stools for extra seating.  New custom shutters were installed in the 3 square windows of our bedroom so that naptime can happen more easily for anybody who needs it.  We also bought new gel foam mattress toppers and pillows for all four twin mattresses in the house, a new set of split-king guest sheets for the front room, and a sturdier shoe rack and bench that matches our dining room table.
But back to the baby - thanks to all my very good friends, I've gotten bags of maternity and nursing clothes, a years worth of baby clothes, a full supply of reusable diapers, an infant car seat, a double stroller, a small rocker crib, a bouncy chair, an electronic swing, a tummy time gym, bathtubs, and several toys and baby books.  We even have a big brother who knows he'll be sharing moinas.  Castle Grayskull is all set.
