Sometimes we go to a place we call Sealy. Sealy is a city 2 hours east of Austin, but when we say we're going there, we're talking about the family property built by George's grandad. George Miner II was the chief operating officer of Miner-Dederick Construction. The company built many of the landmark buildings in Houston, including the Wells Fargo Tower, Greenway Plaza, Rice University's Reckling Park at Cameron Baseball Field, and its Shepherd School of Music.
On 1,740,000 square yards or 360 acres of land sits a 2,200 square foot, two story, four bedroom, three bathroom house. The back entrance faces the road and shares a clearing with a large rack of firewood, a John Deere Gator, and a few horses. Walking through the door, you're surrounded by a musty smell and several well-worn saddles. An old broken grand piano welcomes you in towards the dining hall and its lofted ceiling. The drapes are 15 feet tall. The house itself is cozy but spacious, dated but fancy, and dusty but well-loved. George, Warren, and Zach grew up going to Sealy often with their father, George III. It's a place that's made a generation of memories so far, and it's likely to make a generation more.
